About Daniel
Leading Our Community Forward
DANIEL’S VALUES
Daniel’s parents inspired his life of service. His father, Brian Lurie, is a Rabbi who organized his community to serve those in need and helped tens of thousands of Jews flee persecution in places like Ethiopia and Russia. Daniel’s mother, Mimi Haas, is a tireless leader in early childhood education work.
When Daniel was four years old, his mother remarried Daniel’s stepfather, Peter Haas, longtime CEO and Chairman of Levi’s, an iconic San Francisco brand. From his stepfather, Peter, Daniel learned the value of progressive business practices. Daniel is proud that Levi’s opened one of the first desegregated factories, upheld rights for the LGBTQ+ community long before it was required by law, and fought for gun safety and voting rights.
Daniel’s father remarried Caroline Fromm Lurie, a licensed clinical social worker, artist, and President of the Board of the Fromm Institute.
TIPPING POINT COMMUNITY

GETTING RESULTS
To date, Tipping Point has raised more than $500 million of private money to help house, employ, and educate hundreds of thousands of Bay Area families. Each year, it helps thousands of people transition out of homelessness or prevents them from experiencing it.
Under Daniel’s leadership, Tipping Point spearheaded construction of a first-of-its-kind affordable housing building on Bryant Street, a project that came in on time and under budget with good-paying union labor. In response to the devastating North Bay Fires, Daniel immediately jumped into action to collect donations and distribute funds to community-based organizations. As part of their efforts, Tipping Point organized a sold-out relief concert at AT&T Park that raised more than $17 million for victims of the fires.
BRINGING JOY BACK TO SF
In Spring 2023, Daniel co-founded The Civic Joy Fund, a $2 million effort that is bringing more art, music, energy, and enthusiasm to our city streets. Successes include: corporations adopting city blocks most in need of renewal, a Summer of Music along eight business corridors every Saturday, and Sunday trash pick ups.
Inspired by Family
Daniel draws daily inspiration from his wife Becca, who serves alongside Governor Gavin Newsom. Becca and Daniel are dedicated to raising their two young children, Sawyer and Taya, in a San Francisco we all can be proud of. Daniel and his family can often be found cheering on the 49ers, Giants, Warriors, and the Bay Area’s newest sports team, Bay FC.
